6 Month Update

This past month was a busy one in the McCutcheon home!  Our little boy is now 6 months old.  We cannot believe that he is half a year old.  It makes me sad that he is growing up so quickly, but at the same time we are having so much fun watching him grow, learn, and experience new things.  Here are the weekly changes of Jackson Lee:

23 Weeks!

24 Weeks!

25 Weeks!

26 Weeks...

...And my 6 Month Birthday!!

Happy 1/2 Birthday Bubba!

This month Jackson experienced a lot of new things developmentally.  He began opening his hands up a lot more.  Now Jackson is grabbing and reaching for objects and putting them in his mouth!  He either has a toy or his hands in his mouth at all times!  He even has rediscovered his thumb...it's like they were best friends reunited.  He tried cereal for the first time-at first he absolutely hated it, but is liking it more and more as the weeks progress.  Jackson is a rock star at tummy time! Thank goodness-I was beginning to wonder if he would ever like it.  He is tolerating it much more and stays on his tummy happily for longer periods of time.  He even seems to enjoy it!
Not a fan of cereal at first...

...But now getting the hang of it!

Playing is hard work!
We took our first overnight mini road trip to Nebraska.  It was a fun weekend away.  Of course, we had to bring Jackson's favorite buddy, Oscar.  But he has recently shown favoritism to Sophie the Giraffe, an incredible teething toy that allows Jackson to chew it, grab it, and squeak it!

We had so much fun celebrating Nick's graduation from Missouri Western State University.  I am incredibly proud of my man.  He has worked tremendously hard!  It was so special to have Jackson there witnessing his Daddy graduate!
Waiting for Daddy to walk in with all the other graduates.  Thanks, Heather, for making my tie onesie!

Snuggling with G-Mo.

Almost stayed awake during the whole graduation ceremony!

Go Daddy!  We are so proud of you!

Nick's younger brother, EJ, G-Mo and Grandpa B came to celebrate Nick's graduation.

Papa and Baba came, too!

Family photo!

Congratulations Nick!

It's not a true celebration unless cake is involved!

I got a big celebration of my own: My first Mother's Day!  Nick and Jackson got me some flowers.  Nick took me and Jackson to Smokehouse at Zona Rosa, one of my favorite restaurants.  I love me some bbq.  We shopped around Zona Rosa-picked out a new Pandora charm for my bracelet (thanks Nick!!), and of course went to Yogurtini for frozen yogurt.  Oh, and I got to take a nap that afternoon!!  It was a very special day.

Thanks G-MO for helping Jackson make his mommy a special gift.

Mommy's favorite flowers: Gerber Daisies

We ended Jackson's 6th month by going to the Children's SPOT (Speech, Physical, Occupational Therapy), which is a NICU follow up appointment.  We were greeted by a physical therapist and a speech pathologist.  They had a play session with Jackson as they assessed his progress.  It was determined that Jackson is developmentally 4 months, which is exactly where he should be due to being a preemie.  We were happy to hear that he is progressing well.  Ok, I'll be honest...I thought they would tell us that Jackson was all caught up.  Nick warned me not to get my hopes up.  I wasn't disappointed-just surprised.  They said preemies will begin closing the gap (or catch up) by 12-18 months and reassured us that Jackson was doing great.  They told us Jackson was fine in the weight department...hehee, we already knew that! (At Jax's pediatrician's appointment earlier in the week he weighed 15.13 fully clothed...we will get a more accurate weight on his June 4th appointment)  Once again, we were told that Jackson has some head and neck issues that need work.  (Sigh!) The physical therapist gave us some helpful exercise tips to do multiple times a day to get full range of motion on the left side.  It's frustrating...I feel we have done everything we can with his sweet noggin and neck.  And we thought it was getting so much better.  Jackson hates the stretches...it stinks.  We will go back to the Children's SPOT in August for another evaluation.
Workin on that neck.  OHHHH, I'm SO handsome!

Jackson is wearing size 3-6 month clothing.  He is in size 2 diapers.  He has gotten so much longer these past couple of weeks.  My boy is growing!

This month Jackson's favorite things include:
Sophie the Giraffe, when Daddy acts like he is a corn on the cob, his right thumb, his toy fire truck that lights up and makes noises, his taggie blankets, Baby Einstein videos, being outside sitting on the front porch or back deck, walks, baths, Get Ready Baby book, and most recently I found his tickle spot on the sides of his neck (this might be one of mommy's favorite things, too!  He does just a little giggle), and PUPPIES!
Jackson playing with a couple of his favorite things:  his taggie (Thanks, Megan!) and his fire truck (Thanks Baba!)

Here is a video of Jackson's first laughter!  He was cracking up!  I'm so happy I had my camera nearby.  We were at Aunt Irene and Uncle Glen's house, where he met Chico.  I told Daddy we have to go buy a dog now!

This month Jackson's least favorite things include:
When bathtime is over, 7:15 PM (on the dot sometimes!), changing clothes, and neck exercises.

One of my students, Gavin, brought in A LOT of pop tops to school to help raise money for the Ronald McDonald House.  He saved them all year.  It was special to him and his family because that is where Nick and I stayed when Jackson was in the hospital.  To help get involved in Ronald McDonald House or to learn more about this AMAZING charity, visit their website:
Thanks Gavin!  I'm very touched by you and your family's generosity.  You will be helping lots of babies and kids by your donation.

Mommy's last day of school!  We are going to have such a fun summer, Jax!

Mommy's ALL-TIME favorite pair of pajamas...they are beginning to be too small...so sad!

I love my Booga!
We've gotta get Jax a pair of overalls!

Papa is building a "Bridge to Nowhere" at the Annex.  Jackson will be enjoying it very soon!

Jackson's first visit to Papa and Baba's Annex.  The pine tree was planted that same day.

We hope you and your family had a very special Memorial Day.
