We ended Jackson's 6th
month by going to the Children's SPOT (Speech, Physical, Occupational Therapy),
which is a NICU follow up appointment. We were greeted by a physical
therapist and a speech pathologist. They had a play session with Jackson
as they assessed his progress. It was determined that Jackson
is developmentally 4 months, which is exactly where he should be due
to being a preemie. We were happy to hear that he is progressing well.
Ok, I'll be honest...I thought they would tell us that Jackson was all
caught up. Nick warned me not to get my hopes up. I wasn't
disappointed-just surprised. They said preemies will begin closing the
gap (or catch up) by 12-18 months and reassured us that Jackson was doing
great. They told us Jackson was fine in the weight department...hehee, we
already knew that! (At Jax's pediatrician's appointment earlier in
the week he weighed 15.13 fully clothed...we will get a more accurate weight on
his June 4th appointment) Once again, we were told that Jackson has some
head and neck issues that need work. (Sigh!) The physical therapist gave
us some helpful exercise tips to do multiple times a day to get full range of
motion on the left side. It's frustrating...I feel we have done
everything we can with his sweet noggin and neck. And we thought it was
getting so much better. Jackson hates the stretches...it stinks. We
will go back to the Children's SPOT in August for another evaluation.

Workin on that neck. OHHHH, I'm SO handsome! |
Jackson is wearing size 3-6 month clothing. He is in size 2 diapers. He has gotten so much longer these past couple of weeks. My boy is growing!
This month Jackson's
favorite things include:
Sophie the Giraffe, when Daddy acts like he is a corn on the cob, his
right thumb, his toy fire truck that lights up and makes noises, his taggie blankets, Baby Einstein
videos, being outside sitting on the front porch or back deck, walks,
baths, Get Ready Baby book, and most recently I found his tickle spot on the sides of
his neck (this might be one of mommy's favorite things, too! He does just
a little giggle), and PUPPIES!

Jackson playing with a couple of his favorite things: his taggie (Thanks, Megan!) and his fire truck (Thanks Baba!) |
Here is a video of
Jackson's first laughter! He was cracking up! I'm so happy I had my
camera nearby. We were at Aunt Irene and Uncle Glen's house, where he met
Chico. I told Daddy we have to go buy a dog now!
Here is a video of Daddy acting like Jackson is corn on the cob:
This month Jackson's
least favorite things include:
When bathtime is over,
7:15 PM (on the dot sometimes!), changing clothes, and neck exercises.
Other fun photos from
the month:
One of my students, Gavin, brought in A LOT of pop tops to school
to help raise money for the Ronald McDonald House. He saved them all
year. It was special to him and his family because that is where Nick and
I stayed when Jackson was in the hospital. To help
get involved in Ronald McDonald House or to learn more about this
AMAZING charity, visit their website:
Thanks Gavin! I'm very
touched by you and your family's generosity. You will be helping lots of
babies and kids by your donation.

Mommy's ALL-TIME favorite pair of pajamas...they are beginning to be too small...so sad! |
|
I love my Booga! |
|
We've gotta get Jax a pair of overalls! |
|
Papa is building a "Bridge to Nowhere" at the Annex. Jackson will be enjoying it very soon! |
|
Jackson's first visit to Papa and Baba's Annex. The pine tree was planted that same day. |
We hope you and your family had a very special Memorial Day.

And I won't forget the men who died,
Who gave that right to me."
